Bhutan has entered a multi-year partnership with trading firm Cumberland DRW to develop a cryptocurrency ecosystem within its Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), a project spearheaded by King Jigme Wangchuck. The collaboration focuses on three pillars: cultivating local blockchain talent, creating national stablecoins, and building sustainable crypto infrastructure.

The initiative aligns with Bhutan's broader strategy to position GMC as an economic hub blending technology with traditional values. Plans include green energy-powered data centers through Green Digital Ltd., yield-generating crypto instruments, and AI-integrated blockchain frameworks. Cumberland founder Donald Wilson and Green Digital chairman Gelay Jamtsho emphasized the fusion of Bhutan's renewable energy resources with global crypto liquidity.
